Who won, Who lost, Who got away

Every media has a different version of who won or who lost in the just concluded Super Tuesday. With around 14.4 million Democrats and 8.7 million Republicans who voted, it does a pretty long time to count these votes. Its a behemoth task to determine who is leading till the dust settles down. And the most closest race in the history of elections is that of Clinton and Obama. What a close race this has been.

As per the CNN reports Clinton has 1113 delegates to Obama’s 963. McCain is way ahead in the Republican arena. And what did I hear, Mitt Romney is suspending his campaign because of a very poor Super Tuesday he had. And who gained from all this Mike Huckabee, mostly the conservative votes from down South. McCain is the least conservative of the 3, but I feel he has the personality and the charm that is required by a President of the World’s largest economy. Talking about economy, isn’t it true that Clinton and Obama would be good candidates to improve our sluggish economy, since Bill Clinton was able to show US$ 1 trillion budget surplus before he left the office. Whereas George Bush has shown a negative US$ 400 billion in the budget, adding to all the problems related to the War, Unemployment and much more.
I feel, the biggest plus of McCain has been his stance against Bush, where he has been vocal against the President the day US went into war against Iraq. And I have been following McCain ever since then. People of US took time to notice what he had to say, and now there is no looking back for him. He will gain in a big way because of the close contest between Clinton and Obama. US$ 200 million has already been spent for campaigning by both Clinton-Obama and its all the more noticeable when Clinton announces that she took US$ 5 million as a loan from herself. And what more, the campaigners in the Clinton camp are ready to go without pay for almost a month. Where is this all going to end. Well in a democratic country this is very well expected. For that matter the world’s largest democratic country such as India spents a whole lot in campaign till some Election Commissioner came over and clamped down on the spending. As the politicians spend, the chances of corruption or kickbacks increase.
Why is the election process such a long drawn affair. Specially in the case of democrats. Republican need to get only 1191 delegates when Democrats need 2025 delegrates to get nominated. Delegates for democrats are counted proportionate to the votes and in case of Republicans its a ‘Winner Takes All Delegates’, in essence they win all the delegates from a state if they got the maximum votes in that state.
I have always supported Democrats, however this time, I would support McCain because of his past military background, talks tough, least conservative (that makes him equals to Democrats) and the most important factor, he has been very vocal about Mr. Bush. Let the best win since it is By the People, Of the People, For the People.
