Should you be forced into a medical treatment?

The big news today is the story about a mom who is on the run with her 13 year old son because she does not want him to receive chemotherapy. She believes that herbal therapy is the best option for him. His doctor has testified that in his expert opinion the boy will die from the spread of cancer if he does not receive immediate chemotherapy.

What do you think about this? Should parents have the right to refuse treatment against expert advice even when the minors life is at stake? Should the state be empowered to force treatment on a minor if their well being is not the primary concern for the parents? This is such a controversial issue..almost like Dr. Kevorkian and his mercy killings.
