President of the Church of Latter-day Saints, Gordon B. Hinkley passed away today at the age of 97. A graduate of University of Utah, Gordon Hinkley spent 46 years in top leadership position at the church. He is credited with the spread of Mormonism through his travel around the world. The church membership stood at 12 million members around the world at the time of his death.
Mormonism describes those who believe in the Book of Mormon, which many consider as another testament of Jesus Christ. Though Mormonism is associated with Christianity, traditional Christians such as Roman Catholics and Protestants feel that it is not a true Christian denomination. Polygamy is often associated with Mormonism and was often referred to as plural marriage by the founder of the Latter Day Saints, Joseph Smith.
