Organic Valentine Day

A few days back I had written about how to buy the right Valentine’s day gift. I just read a very interesting article in today’s edition of USA today about political correctness in buying organic flowers, organic chocolates and anything else organic you can think of for your better half.

Its seems 1800Flowers is offering Fair Trade-certified flowers that guarantee fair wages in developing countries. A bouquet of dozen roses with a certificate costs $36.99 on their website, however the same dozen costs only $29.99 without the certificate. This reminds me of the movie, Blood Diamond, where women stop buying diamond jewelry because it is coming from one of the countries in Africa and they can demand a certificate for the same.

There is plenty more in the list of gifts to give that would be ‘Politically Correct’. For example, there are organic chocolates that are a hot sell on sweethearthchocolates.com. A 5-ounce box is going for $16. Then there is cruelty-free perfumes which are not tested on animals. And then we have the greeting cards and this valentine’s day send an e-card, imagine how many trees you save by not send paper greeting cards.
