The government of Sri Lanka has announced that the LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran has been killed while trying to escape from the war zone in an ambulance. The reaction was mixed because the Sinhalese are happy that over 3 decades of conflict finally seems to have come to an end. But the minority Tamil population seems to be very unhappy with the death of LTTE leader as the claim that the whole reason why Prabhakaran became a rebel is because of unequal treatment of Tamil minority in Sri Lanka.

I personally think that though the LTTE was probably formed to fight for the rights of the minority Tamil, it gradually became a terrorist organization that killed thousands of innocent civilians as collateral damage. Even the former prime minsister of India, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by a (suicide bomber) member of LTTE due to his support for Sri Lanka. When a group fighting for it’s rights oversteps its bounds and becomes a terrorist organization, then there is only one right outcome - the elimination of this terrorist organization. This same thing has been seen in other countries where groups that start with a noble cause turn violent and become terrorist organizations that kill innocent civilians.
