Artificial sweeteners make it harder to lose weight

A new study released today concludes that using artificial sweeteners may make it harder for us to lose weight. According to the study, rats that were fed artificial sweeteners consumed more calories than the rats who were fed regular sugar. According to scientists, the reason why this happens is because the digestive system gets confused when the calories don’t match the sweetness of the food consumed. The signal to indicate “full” may therefore be delayed causing the rats to eat more. Scientists believe that this behaviour could very well translate to humans who use artificial sweeteners.

In our quest for perfect bodies, we humans have tried everything. I have always believed that anything that’s not natural can’t be good for consumption. Artificial sweeteners were linked with cancer once upon a time (in a study with rats as well). A few years back Phen-Phen, a popular diet drug was discovered to cause a hole in the heart. Why is weight loss so important that we are willing to risk our lives trying to rid our body of fat?

Nature has deliberately designed our bodies to have the ability to store fat for use during lean periods. Our ancestors were active throughtout the day and therefore did not have much problem burning off any stored fat. Modernization has made our lives very sedentary, making it harder for us to burn fat. To add to that, our diets have become extremely rich.

Rather that try all these diet pills and artificial sweeteners, humans need to go back to the root cause of excess fat - fewer calories burned due to lack of proper exercise.
